The church, which was built in the 19th century by the Russian Empire to Christianize the region and create a religious stronghold, stands on the remains of an ancient Alban temple that existed in the territory of the Qakh district of Azerbaijan in the I-III centuries.

During archaeological excavations conducted in the area, it was determined that the church was built on the remains of the ancient temple. The Russian Empire, which occupied the Ilisu Sultanate, built a new church on the site of the ancient temple to spread Christianity.

When I photographed the temple, it took me back to those years.
